Something hit the camper hard and shook it violently

A listener writes “I was living in Gatlinburg TN, I lived right across the street from the “Smokey Mountains National Park” and I lived right at the base of a 30 foot drop off that climbs the side of a Mountain that has various sized ledges some as small as a few feet some near the top of the mountain are big enough that have two lane roads and some 1 lane etc… but anyway…I lived in a 3 story house top floor was a loft, that was my room, The loft was fairly small but had a door with a wooden frame that had a screen over it with little glass panes that shifted open or closed, so I could get air in the summer etc… the door led out to huge flat roof that is level with the 30′ ledge on the cliff out back.

The cliff was only about 15′ from the roofs edge, and the flat ledge adjacent to me on the cliff was only 3′-5′ wide. Heres where it gets strange…. on summer nights I would often feel as if I’m being watched, through the screen door. The open windows, I would hear strange noises and rustlin, but we had deer and bear and foxes etc… so I always chalked it up to that. but occasionally (once every 2 or 3 weeks give or take) at like 2-3am I would hear this incredibly loud hiss/growl. I can mimic it perfectly, if your ever interested…I could never find the animal that made the noise I looked everywhere.

A guy told me it was a silver fox, but I looked it up and its not the same… not even close to it. I’m not saying it was a Bigfoot, or Dogman… but it was incredibly loud and the scream would repeat over and over for up to an hour. I did hike up there, and found a deer skull. very weird spot for a relic of nature rarely found…. I digress, this noise was directed at me it seemed, and happened year after year til I moved, always between 1-4am.

Here is where it gets crazy… I went to North Georgia (Appalachian Mountains about 4 hours south of Gatlinburg with my grandfather) on a fishing trip for 2 nights 3 days. It was way up in the stix in the Mtns of Georgia… we were sleeping out near a horse pen near the forest in a mid sized camper that could be towed but was stationary with blocks of cement, I was on the top bunk my grandpa was on the bottom bunk.

On the left side (Back of) the camper, there was a small kitchen slash dining room in the middle and the left side was a small bathroom and storage. It was not a huge camper but one man could not move it… at all!!! Anyway… that night about 30 minutes to an hour after we went to bed (11pm or 12am)something slammed the camper really hard and shook it violently but only momentarily…, couple seconds later it shook it again!!! My Grandpa (was a good man but old school military, you know…very surly) said “stop shaking the damn trailer!!!”, it woke him up….then I said “it wasnt me!”…. as I was saying it, it slammed harder!!! I was scared as hell my Grandpa got up and said “well whatever it is is about to get shot” he pulled a revolver from under his pillow…He said “go check outside”… I was so scared that I just opened the door looked outside and stuck my head down under the trailer and looked for feet or legs, saw nothing… the slamming stopped.. we could smell that smell you always talked about in sightings but I saw nothing…granted my view was short and skewed. We were MILES from anyone. we were both scared but grandpa would never have admitted.

Anyway a few minutes later That Hiss/scream/Growl? I heard back home, started there… right by our camper… I thought how is there one of those creatures beside me here too? what the hell is it? I figured it was either the same creature as what shook my trailer…or another animal that was alerting because of it. scary stuff. well this is so long but ill make it short.. we went back home and over the years I would keep hearing it till I moved out at the age of 19. but I stayed around that area. over the years I saw many strange things, if your interested ill tell you the stories, just contact me.”

Wow! Some very curious encounters and one was for sure larger than a fox! Glad you guys made out of the woods safely and hope to hear the sound you imitate and more info on the show! Thanks for sharing.

My grandpa makes that sound too after he has the jeuvos rancheros . Damn near KILLED him! That camper was never the same after that. All kidding aside, Great Smokey Mtn. Ntl Pk has some amazing and terrifying stories. The south squatch is quite “vositile”

LOL! I love Bob Garrett, but every time he says “vositile” I crack up laughing. I just do not have the heart to correct him . . . I believe the word he is looking for is “volatile”. I’m not laughing at him, just with him. In a way he reminds me of my mother, R.I.P, a native to Oklahoma and resident Texan. . . “Worsh rag, Worshington, I-talyun (Italian), Miama Fl., fixin’ to” and the list goes on. I feel I can laugh at this, as I too was born in Oklahoma and raised in Texas.

Dr.ya killing me. ..and I too enjoy Mr Bob’s vocab. And not in a demeaning manor as I do respect the man. Plus being condescending to any human ‘taint righhht.
And Miama…hell yes. I have a safety trainer who says such. And he is very good at what he does. Thx.

Great story , I don’t understand why the grandfather would send his grandson out to a dangerous situation . As a vet myself I would always stand between danger and someone else especially my family.im glad it turned out to where nobody got hurt or killed. There should have been dents to the side of the camper that was hit so hard it shook, it’s scary to know that campers are nothing but thin aluminum on thin framing and that’s all that separated you from such a beast. I like the story , thank you

Yes, Wes I hope you can get him on. Sounds like he may have some weird stories. I was just listening again to Ep. 190, the guy with the tale and blue overalls. Maybe this guy knows some of those weirdo’s too. Janetta

in the planning stages of quickie trips from northern ky nxt to cincinnati here to pigeon forge/smokies and mammoth cave for wife and i. we r both believers and hope to see something and will definitely ask around but i dont think they’ll be in a big hurry to admit anything to a strange city boy nosing around

Strange story, to say the least. A couple of shots into the ground, outside of a cracked door would have gotten the message across. Yea, “vositile”, cracks me up too! Gonna miss the old guys’ once they’re no longer with us.
